Phil The Fluter was a musical play based on the 1967 play ‘The Golden Years’ about the life story of nineteenth century Irish songwriter, poet, author and entertainer, Percy French. It was written by Beverley Cross and Donal Giltinan with music by Percy French and David Heneker,
Phil the Fluter was one of French’s most popular songs and it‘s popularity continued well into the twentieth century, featuring on postcards from the early to the middle of the twentieth century with a revival again in the 1960‘s and 70‘s.
The show opened in November 1969 at the Palace Theatre and ran for over 100 performances.
