Fool on the Hill
Ballet - 1976 TV - Sydney opera house
Award winning ballet created and choreographed by Gillian Lynne inspired by the Beatles’ song ‘Fool on the Hill’ with a score arranged and orchestrated by John Lanchbery.
The ballet was jointly commissioned by The Australian Ballet and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC TV) and premiered at the Sydney Opera House.
Gillian reunited with former Sadler’s Wells Ballet stars and colleagues Dame Peggy Van Praagh and Sir Robert Helpmann - in their role as Australian Ballet Joint Artistic Directors - to create and perform the ballet, joined by another former Sadler’s Wells soloist dancer, Bryan Ashbridge.
Robert Helpmann danced in the role of Sergeant Pepper, and can be seen on the left in the photograph of the Company on stage.
