Rose Marie was a musical with book and lyrics by Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein II and had opened originally on Broadway in 1924 to great success and had been the longest running show on Broadway in the 1920s.
Set in the Canadian Rockies, it centres on Rose Marie who falls in love with a miner, Jim Kenyon. He is subsequently charged with murder, and eventually plans are made for Rose Marie to marry another until the real murderer is revealed - Wanda, played by Gillian Lynne - and the two lovers are re-united.
The best-known song from the musical is "Indian Love Call" which became Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy's signature song.
