Rose Marie was a musical with book and lyrics by Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein II, and had opened originally on Broadway in 1924 to great success and had been the longest-running show on Broadway in the 1920s.
Set in the Canadian Rockies, it centres on Rose Marie who falls in love with a miner, Jim Kenyon. He is subsequently charged with murder, and eventually plans are made for Rose Marie to marry another until the real murderer is revealed - Wanda, played by Gillian Lynne - and the two lovers are reunited.
The best-known song from the musical is "Indian Love Call", which became Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy's signature song.
