Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

The ultimate high-flying musical opened in March 2002 at the London Palladium. It tells the enthralling story of the adventures of a magical car as it sails the seas and flies through the air with its eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts and his enchanting children Jemima and Jeremy. The wonderful characters of Truly Scrumptious, Granpa Potts and the Toymaker, the evil Child catcher, the dastardly Baron and his child-hating Baroness - all appeared on the stage for the first time.

Chitty then opened in New York on Broadway in April 2005 at the new Hilton Theatre, enjoying a well received but short run. In the UK, a hugely successful National UK Tour began in December 2005 and ran until August 2008.

Gillian's View

As is usual with long running musicals there are cast changes every year, and with Chitty, the Childcatcher changes every few months! Additionally during the tour, the actor playing Caractacus Potts will change from venue to venue. I was very involved with every change, adapting my choreography and musical staging to suit each cast change.

The Fonteyn Nureyev Young Dancers Competition

Gillian has worked closely with the Royal Academy of Dance on this exciting bi-annual venture, the first finals of which were held in April 2006. She created four variations which were the centre of the competition, the aim of which was to provide encouragement and performance experience for young dancers in Great Britain and Northern Ireland between the ages of 10 and 13.

Gillian's View

Since the years between the ages of 9 and 15 are crucial in the training of a dancer, I was overjoyed when the RAD asked me to take part in this Competition and create new pieces for it. I grew up as a classical dancer, I have loved it all my life and have tried to make dances that reflect that love but which also add some of the humour and theatre skills that I have had to learn when making shows like "CATS" and various dance dramas I have created.
